EXTRA CURRICULAR RESOURCES  FOR STUDENTS!

  • Check which of the following is true of your experiences at your school.
    • Lots of books, homework, test, papers, and research
    • Adults directing all of the activities
    • Strict time table determining where you should be and when
    • Too few holidays
    • Hours of sitting and trying to stay awake while someone talked at you
    • After the final dismissal bell, everyone leaves the building
    • Forums for interacting with your peers
    • Opportunities for expressing your viewpoint and opinions
    • Fun and entertaining activities
    • Programs for physical and artistic development
    • Ethnically and socially enriched environment
    • Now, check the above items that are available at your school.
    • If you are not certain investigate your school's home web page site and/or your handbook.
    • Can you answer these questions?
    • How many sports are listed?
    • How many artists organizations are there?
    • How many clubs are listed?
    • What are the special events that are open to all students (i.e. Homecoming)?
    • What is the name of the students group that represents the student body?

WHY BOTHER?

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. Many employers prefer employees that have experiences with non-academic activities, in addition to good grades.
  2. Most applications for colleges and universities entrance request letters of recommendations which includes information about students involvement with peers in after school programs.
  3. Clubs, sports, and other organizations provide training and instruction that would be free of charge.
  4. Scholarships are available for athletic, artistic, and club related activities.
  5. School administrators welcome comments from the student body.
  6. Students can explore career and advocation chooses through after school activities.
  7. The members of the organization determine most of the rules for the group.
  8.  Sharing with peers can lead to new friendship and relationships, and reduce stress.
  9. Moving around, making noise, and laughing out loud is encouraged by most groups.

  2. HANDBOOK, AND PUT THEM IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE.  
  3. NOTE: YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITY IS NOT LISTED, ASK ONE OF YOUR TEACHER TO HELP YOU START SOMETHING NEW. 
  4.  RATE EACH ACTIVITY ACCORDING TO THE TIME AND ENERGY REQUIRED AND OTHER COMMITMENTS.  
  5.  PREPARE A LIST OF QUESTIONS AND TALK TO A MEMBER OF EACH ORGANIZATION ABOUT YOUR INTERESTS.
  6.  SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH YOUR PEERS.  
  7.  DECIDE WHICH GROUP IS BEST FOR YOU AND JOIN.
