High School Survival Kit Project
Specifications
AIM:
To enable the
students to have a successful high school experience by providing a Web
based resource.
RATIONALE:
The transition
from middle school to high school is difficult. To adjust to high school
life, many students need additional resources. This project offers a module
of activities for students to practice skills and strategies that will
facilitate academic achievement. A Web based resource
is current and up-to-date, provides accesss to a large variety
of materials and activiities, and affords the opportunity to
individualize exercises to meet the needs of each student.
AUDIENCE FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL SURVIVAL
KIT MODULE:
This module
is designed for use by students in the early stages of high school. However,
the resources it includes are broad enough to be useful to high school
students of any age and of any academic ability level.
High school teachers
of any content area are also an audience for this module. Teachers may
choose among its components, and use them as a supplement to their regular
classroom instruction.
Prerequisite Skills for This
Module
The authors of
this module assume that the student has basic computer skills and is familiar
with browsing a web site. We assume that the student knows to click on
images and recognizes that these images are representative of pages and/or
concepts of the module. We assume that the student recognizes that blue
text is linked text, that purple text indicates he has already visited
that page, that he can move back and forth between pages of the site, and
that the Home Page is simply like a cover of a book. If the student understands
this format, he can use this module with no problems.
Instructional Plan
The High School
Survival kit consists of six sections. The sections are not content specific
and can be used independently and in any order.
Assessment
Suggestions for
student assessment are included in the instructional plans under each section.
Assessment of the module by the students or the teachers is offered at
the bottom of each section. Feedback on this module will allow the authors
to make corrections and adjustments as needed.
