Goals: Goal 28C Understand written passages in the target language.28.C.2b Decode new vocabulary using contextual clues and drawing on words and phrases from prior experience.

Objectives:  Students will be able to recognize typical French want ads in various mediums (including online), their structure, pertinent vocabulary, abbreviations, etc. Students will put their original want ads on web page.

Materials Needed:  Sample want ads for different professions, online site addresses for want ads and euro conversion, vocabulary list, computer, scanner, printer

Activity 2  Employment Applications

Goals:  Goal 28 B Interact in the target language in various settings.28.B1a Respond to and ask simple questions with prompts. Goal 30 B use the target language to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a variety of career options.

Objectives:  Students will become familiar with typical job applications, and contrast information requested, job descriptions, translate into English, learn about the cultural and legal aspects of employment screening, etc.

Materials needed: Online address(es) to organizations with  business operations in France, appropriate vocabulary list, cultural notes, computer scanner, printer

Activity 3 Request for recommendation

Goals: Objectives:  Students will learn the vocabulary/expressions to assist them in asking for a recommendation in writing

Materials needed:  Appropriate vocabulary lists, sample recommendation letter

Activity 4 French Introduction Letter

Goals:  Goal 28 Use the target language to present information, concepts and ideas for a variety of purposes to different audiences.  28.D.2a Write on familiar topics using appropriate grammar, punctuation and capitalization.

Objectives:  Students will be able to write an introduction letter in French in response to a want ad, using writing skills to describe self, skills, persuade and use appropriate salutations and closings.

Materials needed:  Sample introduction letter, vocabulary list, cultural notes, computer, scanner, printer

Activity 5 Vignettes for Video

Goals:  28B Interact in the target language in various settings.28.B.2b Produce language using proper pronunciation, intonation and inflection.

Objectives:  Students will write, star and direct simulated video interviews in French using 5C's skills acquired.  Editing and posting of video clips to web page.
