When two people are having a conflict and wish to resolve it, here are
some steps for them to follow. If one or both persons are inexperienced
with the resolution steps, they need a helper or mentor to work with them.
Here are the steps to go through:
Here is a summary or short form of the steps described above.
After discussing what happened:
After you have gone through these steps with the mentor, you might
need to wait until your mentor meets with the other person as well, to
take that person through the same steps. Or, if another mentor was
meeting with the other person, the two mentors need to talk to each other
to make sure both persons are ready to talk to one another and do the actual
resolution.
Then, one of the mentors will meet with you and the other person to
talk through the conflict resolution.
In this conference, one of you will begin. You will go through
the steps listed above (see short form) with the other person, and
they will go through the steps with you. When you get to the last
step, be sincere; if you are willing to honor their request, say you will
honor it to the best of your ability, and really mean it. The other
person should say, "Thank you." You also should say "Thank you" if
they say they are willing to honor your request.
If one or both of you cannot agree to honor the other's request, the process will begin again.
