THE CHALLENGE IS TO IDENTIFY FAMOUS BLACK AMERICANS
THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUNG CHILDREN
Aim
Primary students will be able to identify Famous Black Americans.
Rationale
Primary children should be familiar and aware of the contrbutions
and accomplishments, Black Americans have made to society in the past as
well as the present.
Goals and Objectives

current leaders,artist)

and pictures

Explain the role selected key figures have played as agents
of change within society(Sojourner Truth as an antislavery activist)

Identify various forms of media(newspaper,magazine,television,Internet)

Describe events using categories of time(yesterday,today,tomorrow,long
ago)

Identify national holidays and describe the contributions
of historical figures related to holidays

Explain and demonstrate the use of the tools of social science
inquiry(documents,letters,textbooks,photos)used to investigate the past
and locate events in time
Audience
PRIMARY GRADES -KINDERGARTEN,FIRST,SECOND
Prerequisites
Primary students should have some knowledge of the following:

Background of each Famous Black American to be discussed

Photo recognition of each Famous Black American to
be discussed

The lesson will be taught across the curriculum. The following subjects
will be incorporated.

INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN
The teacher will read stories to the students about
each Famous Black American to be discussed. These stories will give the
students information about this person(birth,death.inventions,awards,etc.)
These books will be included in the classroom library as well as loaded
on the computer in an easy to read format.The children will be given a
daily worksheet to be done with teacher assistance as well as independently.
The children will do computer games created by the teacher.(word search
puzzle,picture match,etc.)
