One of the least known pharoahs had the most famous, popular, and beautiful and Beautiful wife documented in history, ancient or modern, queen Nefertiti. Akhenaton ruled Egypt from 1379 B.C. - 1362 B.C., during what is called the New Kingdom. The period in which he reigned was known as the Armana period.

During his reign one of the most poinant and important ideas in history emerged, monotheism. Monotheism is the belief in one supreme creator. This was the new belief system which Akenaton instituted in Egypt. Akhenaton called the creator Aton. He then changed his name from Amenhotep IV to Akhenaton which means ("He Who Is Benificial To Aton).

This was not the belief system which the priest and nobles prefered. Because Egypt was a polytheistic society the priests and noble were concerned, and rightly so, that Akhenaton's changing of the religious belief system would adversely affect their churches' congregations and therefore their financial support from the Egyptian people, This made the priests and nobles angry and they responded by calling Akhenaton a heritic, attempting to discredit his rule
