There are many different types of birds living in the Chicago area. Almost everyone can
recognizes Pigeons, Crows and Robins. Using the web sites listed in blue answer the
questions below on a separate sheet of paper. Try to be a different (unique, original) in
your answers. Don't choose the same birds your neighbor uses. - i.e. - DON'T COPY.
Remember to put your name and date at the top of your papers.

1. Quickly scan through the names of Illinois birds you find a different web sites. Now how many
different types of birds do you guess visit or live in the Chicago area ? ________
2. Do you see pictures of any birds you recognize ? Choose five different birds and make a quick
color pencil sketch of each.
3. What are the their common name of each bird ? Write them under each picture.
If you can find howtall they are and how wide a wing span each has, write that under the name. This
will give scale to your drawings and give us an idea of how big an opening they can get through.
4. Read more about your five birds. What do they eat ?
5. What sort of places do they like to nest ?
6. What materials do they use to make their nests ?
7. Can your birds be found in Chicago (northern Illinois) year round ?
If not . . . When and where do they travel to and from ?
8. Do you know where any occupied bird nest are ? What type of birds are living there ?
If you answered "NO," to #8, keep your eyes peeled for a nest to monitor.
