Wow, it's the end of our first week of Pre-K. There are new toys, adults and children to get to know. We have Tylar, Marley, Nasheed, Javon, Bryce, Se'Less, Tahir, Kamari, Admu and Camille. More will be starting soon.
In the days to come, we will be learning classroom routines. It is especially important that parents know classroom procedures so that they are reinforced at home. Lets work together to help our children learn and understand these. Here are a few -
Hang up jacket and backpack
Wash hands after using bathroom and wiping nose
Stay inside classroom; do not go in hallway alone
Use inside voice and speak in complete sentences
Wait until all at table is served before eating
Rug times are for group sharing and listening
No Power Ranger, Power Puff Girls or gun playing
Attached are a home assignment page and a book your child has selected. We hope that you and your child enjoy the story and complete this assignment by drawing a picture about the story. Now, there are lots of ways to do this. After you read the story, ask your child what s/he likes about the story. Help or let him/her draw a picture about the story (scribbles are okay). Next, ask what you can write about the picture that was just drawn. It is important, at this stage, to let the child see their spoken language become printed words. If they see this enough, they will start writing themselves. We will write to you more about how to help your child with the reading and writing process. If your child does not want to complete the assignment, stop the activity and visit it later. This might help. Return the home assignment and any other communication (book orders, school fee, questions .) in the blue communicator.
We are dong good with paper towels and soap. Thanks a bunch.
