Lesson Plan
Aim:The purpose of this curriculum is to expose
the eighth students to some aspects of their African heritage.
Rationale:The rationale behind this curriculum is that many African-American

contributions that people of African descent have made to not only the
homeland ,but specifically to the United States.
Goals and Objectives:By being an active
and enthusastic participant in the curriculum a student should be able
to demonstrate a knowledge of world geography and compare and contrast
the physical and human characteristics of the United States and Africa,as
set forth in the state goals set by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Audience and Prerequisites:This
curriculum is intended for an eigth-grade student who will be engaged and
motivated by being introduced to some of the great things that people of
African descent have been able to accomplish in spite the many obstacles-both
internal and external-that have been placed before their ancestors
Subject-Matter:In general the topic will bea look back at
African heritage in order to allow students to develop a sense of pride
in themselves and in their race as a whole.
Instructional plan:After a general
introduction as to purpose of the lesson the activities will be designed
to allow each learner to proceed at their own pace to complete all the
activities and allow for individual exploration.
Materials: This curriculum
will make use of all available resources but make a concerted effort to
make use of the myriad and almost limitless sources of the Internet. These
