Lesson Plan

 

 Aim:The purpose of this curriculum is to expose the eighth students to some aspects of their African heritage.

 

Rationale:The rationale behind this curriculum is that many African-American students are woefully lacking in knowledge of Africa and the many important contributions that people of African descent have made to not only the homeland ,but specifically to the United States.

 

Goals and Objectives:By being an active and enthusastic participant in the curriculum a student should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of world geography and compare and contrast the physical and human characteristics of the United States and Africa,as set forth in the state goals set by the Illinois State Board of Education.

 
 

Audience and Prerequisites:This curriculum is intended for an eigth-grade student who will be engaged and motivated by being introduced to some of the great things that people of African descent have been able to accomplish in spite the many obstacles-both internal and external-that have been placed before their ancestors
 
 

Subject-Matter:In general the topic will bea look back at African heritage in order to allow students to develop a sense of pride in themselves and in their race as a whole.
 
 
 

 Instructional plan:After a general introduction as to purpose of the lesson the activities will be designed to allow each learner to proceed at their own pace to complete all the activities and allow for individual exploration.

 

 Materials: This curriculum will make use of all available resources but make a concerted effort to make use of the myriad and almost limitless sources of the Internet.These might include chalkboards, pencils, pens,etc.
