Edward Hopper (1882-1967) and Chief Oloruntoba

Edward Hopper was born in Nyack, New York in 1882.  He studied painting from 1901 to 1906.  He worked in commercial art before his paintings gained success.  The Street Scene - Gloucester is a picture of a quiet street in Massachusetts where Hopper spent several summers.

Chief Z. K. Oloruntoba  was born in the Oyo region of Nigeria, Africa.  He learned to paint from his grandmother.  His work is done with fabric colored with dyes that come from many kinds of plants.  The plants, and the dyes that come from them are also herbal medicines.  Oloruntoba believes that the pictures created with these dyes have the power to heal.

The picture on the guided Looking page is not the same as the one in the text book.  Can you see the difference?
