The team was unable to overcome the lost of Brandy.  We lost to a team which we had previously beaten.  Brandy had to give up playing sports but her popularity did not decline with the peers at school.  She continued to excel academically, making the high honors along with outstanding math and reading scores on the ITBS.  Brandy occasionally visits our school and our conversations lead me to believe that she will become a champion in life.
I believe she will be the player to get the team to the championship.  Brandy was a coaches dream.  Not only was she an outstanding basketball player, she also excelled in the classroom.  She always made the honor roll and had outstanding test scores.  She was a popular student and born leader.  Brandy was extremely athletic for a girl her age.  Beside basketball, she excelled in volleyball and track.  So why didn't our team make it to the championship?  I believe we didn't reach our goal because Brandy didn't play in the most crucial game of the season.  It just wasn't the same!  The most important factor in the team's success was missing.  Brandy was that factor.
Brandy was no longer on the team because of a significant change in her life.  At first the change was subtle.  She started coming late for practice.  Sometimes she would be so late that it was senseless for her to change into practice rear.  She was sit and watch what remained of practice.  Our conversations about her tardiness always resulted in her promising to do better. Things got worse however.  She started missing practices all together. When she did come to practice her participation lackluster.  Her enthusiasm for practice was gone. Worse, the whole team seemed to be affected by what was happening to Brandy.  Soon Brandy quit the team because everyone discovered that she was pregnant.  The news devastated all of us.  In spite of Brandy's situation the girls wanted to keep playing in hopes of winning the championship.

Some questions to think about.

Why did Brandy have to quit the team?
What happened to have changed Brandy?
If you were in Brandy's place, what would have done differently.  How could you have avoided the same situation?
