Aim

The purpose of this unit is to provide students with the resources necessary teach part of a poetry unit to a class.  Students will use the information that they learn in order to create poetry books.

Rationale

Poetry provides a unique and creative way for students to express themselves.  This lesson provides students with an additional resource for viewing several different styles of poetry.  In addition to learning about poetry, students also have the opportunity to utilize technology.

Audience

This lesson is designed for elementary students in the upper grades.

Prerequisites

Students should have basic computer knowledge, an ability to navigate the world-wide web and basic typing skills.

Subject-Matter

The subject matter of this lesson consist primarily of language arts, reading and computer technology.

Instructional Plan

This unit is designed to be used in cooperative groups and with a facilitator guiding the students.  However, the students should be able to navigate through the Web Quest at their own leisure.

This unit should be used as supplement to a poetry unit, and should not stand alone.

Students will research sites and learn about various forms of poetry, share what they learned with the rest of the class and create poetry books.
