I first played disc golf in approximately 1978. In about 1982 the village of Wilmette decided there were too many unruly people coming to their park to play, so they reduced the course to nine holes and eventually to zero.

In September(?) of 1996 I learned that the game still existed. I mistakenly believed there were about 2 courses in the area.

In early 1997 I was playing in Libertyville, (where they are in the process of removing half the course in a style reminiscent of Wilmette),and I learned of an Internet address, which has changed my life.

I have learned that there are now 28 disc golf courses in Illinois,(over 648 worldwide!). I have played 22 of them as of July 18, 1997.

Until June 20, 1997 I did not keep this diary. I have listed locations and number of games played prior to this without dates,(for posterity!).

1^st game Buffalo Grove approximately September 1996

2^nd game Libertyville, late September, early October1996

Beginning approximately mid to late April of 1997 I resumed play.

8-24-97 MY FIRST TOURNAMENT!! New Lenox- Course was set up with 6 temporary holes for first game(24 holes) and 7 temps for 2nd game(25 holes). I practiced the 6 temporaries once before the tournament. I shot pretty poorly. 17 over par on the first game and 8 over on the second. Next time will be better!

8-26-97 Madison Meadows, Lombard. My first game of "Best shot". Got my friend Charles as a partner. We shot 9 under par. Very long game, our partner players shot poorly and one got extremely drunk.

8-28-97 Libertyville. Glad to see that the course is still 18 holes. They have changed it quite a bit.

11-15-98 Streamwood.  Doubles tournament with Charles.  We won first place in the Recreational Division!

6-13-99 Naperville.  Won a pie in the throw for the pies competition.

6-17-99 Round Lake

6-18-99 Madison Meadows

6-19-99 Lombard, Madison Meadows.  Won a pie in the throw for the pies competition.  4th place in Amateur Division, shot 152, 8 over par, 2 rounds of 24 holes.

6-22-99 Rockford, Anna Page Park

6-23-99 Streamwood

8-21-99 New Lenox, Haines Park.  Won a trophy for Closest to the Hole.

7-15-00 Joliet, West Park.  Shot nine over par for the first round of the Illinois State Competition, left before second round.

7-18-00 Lombard, Madison Meadows. Shot a round with Charles.  Six over par.
