Student Instructions

Web Based Lesson
 

Congratulations!!!!   You are the winner of an all expense paid vacation (up to $10,000) to any five states within the continental United States.  Accepting this trip means that you agree to the following guidelines:
 

  1. You must visit at least five states.
  2. Your trip must cover a minimum of 1,000 miles.
  3. You must use Internet URL's as research resources.
  4. You must engage in two cultural activities within each state.
  5. You must compose a friendly and/or business letter to the Bureau of Tourism.
  6. You must complete a detailed itinerary of your travel plans.
  7. You must complete a complete budget for the entire trip.
  8. You must use at least two modes of transportation to travel.

 

Before departing you must submit a detailed, descriptive itinerary including a travel plan itinerary showing a schedule of events, modes of transportation, order of travel destinations and miles covered, Time of year of travel and clothing requirements, and a detailed budget including all of the above criteria.  Your itinerary must be submitted in the for of a written report as well as an oral presentation.  Visuals must be included with both formats.

STUDENTS MUST PARTICIPATE IN PRE TASK ACTIVITIES 1 THRU 5 OUTLINED IN THE TEACHING GUIDE BEFORE BEGINNING PROJECT  RESEARCH!!!!
 

Students, start your project by clicking here on the United States Image Map to choose and research the states you would like to visit.

Next:  Use classroom maps and or the National Geographic site to to find an on line map to measure distance between your chosen states using that map's map scale.
 

Next:  Click on the Weather Page to research the climate of the states that you will be traveling to and to determine the time of year you will traveling.   This would be a good time to start planning your wardrobe for this five state trip.

Next:  Click on the History on 50 States to research cultural attractions for each of your five states and to find the address to each state's Bureau of Tourism.
 
 

Next:  Click on the Travel Plan Itinerary after you have collected and organized all of the required information on each of your five states.  Use the table to plan and organize your information as you will soon begin to compose your budget.
 
 
 

Next:  Click on Travel Supermartplus to research and choose two or more means of transportation for your trip and the cost of each.  This would be a good time to decide how many days you will stay in each state and begin organizing this information on the Budget Activity worksheet.
 
 

Finally: Continue to compose your budget on the budget activity worksheet referring to the Math Practice site as needed to review skills necessary for calculating your budget.
 
 

  You are ready to begin writing your report.  Click on Final Report and follow the directions for the written and oral presentation .
