Book Reviews

Reading is one of my favorite things to do.  Lately I haven't had much time to read any books, but I have read some good books in the past.  I think the following books are worth reading.

And Then There Were None
By Agatha Christie
I recommend this book to all those who love a good mystery.
Ten strangers are brought together on an island by a mysterious host.  Something strange happens to each one of them.

Fearless
By Francine Pascal
I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure/fantasy.
Gaia is just like every other girl, except she is born without the fear gene.

Harry Potter I, II, III, and IV
By J.K. Rowling
This is a good series for people who like fantasies.
Harry Potter is young boy who lives with his horrible aunt and uncle and their son, Dudley.  Up until his twelfth birthday, Harry's had a pretty bad life with his aunt and uncle.  When he turns twelve, he starts getting letters from people he has never heard of.  Harry Potter discovers things about his past that lead him to a great future.

By Todd Strasser
This is a good book for anyone who likes realistic fiction.
Kyle was a star quarterback until his knee injury.  Bo( short for Bonita ) is a shy teenage girl who, with a few changes, suddenly gains everyone's attention, including Kyle's.

My Hobbies
I have a lot of hobbies, but my favorite is making soap.  Making soap is easy and fun.  There are fragrances and colors to add and different shapes to make the soap in. All of the materials are available in most craft stores.  Once you have the block of glycerin, a fragrance, dyes, and a mold, all you do is melt the cubes of glycerin.  After the glycerin is melted in the microwave, you add a dye and fragrance.  Next you put Vaseline in the mold and pour in the soap mixture.  Once you've poured the mixture, you let it cool and pop it out.  I recommend this craft for anyone who likes fun and easy things.  All this takes is about thirty to forty-five minutes, tops!

Over The Top
By: John Nash

I think John Nash wanted to show what the actual moment of going over the top was like.  I wonder what it must have felt like to hear the command to go over the top, to be standing there with the anxiety of not knowing what will happen to you next.  The ground is completely covered with snow.  How cold and miserable these men must have been!  No matter what the conditions were, they were still willing to fight for their country.  The men seem so real as they leave the trenches, some with their backs arched, others standing straight, and the rest crawling out of trenches.  The fact behind this painting is that most of these men are marching towards their death.  Out of the eighty men who went over the top, sixty-eight were either killed or wounded within the first few minutes.  John Nash, one of the survivors, painted this picture from his memory of that day.
