Julie of the Wolves
By: Jean Craighead George

After  running away from her village, Miyax (Julie) gets lost in the tundra.  She is alone and hungry, and a pack of wolves accepts her into their community and helps her find safety.  Since this story is about a 13 year old girl, I recommend this book to teens because they can easily relate to it.

The Giver
By: Lois Loury
In receiving his lifetime assignment at the Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas becomes the Reciever of Memories that only he and another person in his community know about.  Learning the truth about his own society (which is supposed to be a utopian society), he begins to doubt their rules.
I recommend this book because it introduces you to a world that is different from what we live in.  The characters come alive, and it allows you to feel like you are really there.

The Diary of Anne Frank
by: Anne Frank

Anne Frank is a Jewish teen who writes about her joys, torments, and her thoughts during the 2 years of hiding from the Nazis during World War II.
I recommend this book because it is very realistic.  It allows others to understand what life in hiding is really like.

The Joy Luck Club
by: Amy Tan

Members of the Joy Luck Club meet regularly to play mah jong and share their heritage.  The death of one member provides the opportunity for her daughter to learn about the other members and what they have gone through.  Their stories are then juxtaposed with those of their own daughters.
I recommend this book because it provides good insights into the sources of generational  differences that result in conflicts.

Things Fall Apart
by: Chinua Achebe

An African village's organized tradition and culture falls apart as the whites colonize and convert them.  This especially affected Okonkwo's life, resulting in him killing himself in the end.
I recommend this book because it allows you to understand more about the African culture and traditions.

MY HOBBIES
I am a quiet person who expresses myself through the different activities that I do during my free time. For instance, I like to draw.  When I draw, I express my feelings, my thoughts, and my views. I especially like to draw landscapes, mountains, and gardens. Another way I express myself is through the poems that I write.  I usually write about topics such as racism and the reality of life.
I even made a webpage for my poems. These are only a few of the ways I spend my free time.  Sometimes I do volunteer work in a house for mentally challenged kids.  Besides these, I also love to shop, listen to music, skate, and participate in many other fun and sober activities.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

The Great War or World War I is a tragic war which could have been avoided.  Excessive pride in one's country was one of the causes of this unnecessary war.  Each country had no considerable reason to join. This war was just fought to prove who is the most powerful and dominant country.  It was a phyrric victory for the Allies since this war cost more than it was worth. Many people's lives were taken, and many others were hurt emotionally and physically.  Almost all the countries had a hard time trying to recover from this war, which could have been avoided.  Without this Great War, World War II wouldn't have happened either; however, it did happen.  We just have to learn from the past and our mistakes in order for this not to happen again.

PERSONAL WRITING
This was a poem I made August 4, 2000.
Untitled

20/20 vision is a curse
we're only pure at birth
the price of innocence is what's vision's worth
since colored lines are defined by our eyes
the best way to perceive is to be perfectly blind
a concept of vanity
and only when our eyes are closed do we knows its sanity
i stand complacent
heritage robbed from the ancient
the basis of racist depends on the content of people's faced
I tried to changed from the concept of the tainted optics
that "perceive their exterior" and "i don't care of their content"
the concept of vision is over rated
yet the concept of racism has been outdated
it is still found in south placed and borders
the world like a pop machine that need change
flashing out of order
then the final methods, manifests hate express
God laying the lessons that we failed the tests
all because of the gift of sight
telling lies we proved the judge
"yeah we have no right"
if Hitler were blind, there'd be no Nazi practices
12 million souls wouldn't be turned into ashes
being perfectly blind is the way to perceive the masses
who would have known pandora's box
came in the form of glasses.
