The Giver
by Lois Lowry
This is an amazing book. In this book, you are introduced to a world where things
are quite different from what you are used to. The main character, Jonas, begins
to find out everything that the community he lives in has hidden from him his
entire life. With lots of twists and turns, everyone will love this book.

Nector in the Sieve
by Kamala Markandaya
This book illustrates what life is like for women in a small patriarchal village in India. Rukmani, the main character, goes through many hardships. For example, her daughter becomes a prostitute, and her husband loses the land they live on. Life begins hard for Rukmani and just keeps getting harder. This book takes you through her journey. It is a very good book that you won't want to put down.

Personal Reflections

Reflection on World War I

          C. R. W. Nevinson, A Taube, 1916-17, oil
on canvas, 63.5 x 76.2 cm, Imperial War
         Museum, London.
Image Source: World War I Archive

When I look at this picture, it reminds me of all the civilians who lost their lives during World War I. When a country goes to war, I don't think that the government thinks about all the people that will lose their lives. The first thing that stands out to me in this picture is, obviously, the dead child on the sidewalk. I realize how war affects the people that live where war is taking place. Innocent people are killed, or affected directly, either by loss of a loved one or becoming homeless and bankrupt. The war is devastating for all involved. This picture is a very powerful image.

My Hobbies

I don't really have a lot of hobbies, but there are a few things that I enjoy doing. I love to sing. If a song that I like comes on the radio or the video comes on television, no matter what I'm doing, I stop and have to sing along. I also love to dance. I'm a fast learner when it comes to learning dance routines. I just don't like to dance in front of people I don't know. Another hobby I have is I like to design fashions. Some people tell me that I should become a designer, but I tell them maybe as a side job because I don't think that my outfits are good enough for me to consider as a career.
