Personal Reflection on World War I

Image Source: World War 1 Art Archives

The Death

I feel this picture relates to war because it shows all the colors of war: blue for all the good things that the soldiers want to come of the war, red for the blood they are shedding, and yellow for everything all mixed up together. The people in The Death are frantic, scared, suffering, and dying. The picture shows the absolute horror and  pain of war. The picture captures a moment that obviously reveals these soldiers did not want to die. The light from the flares shows all those who had given their all in this "War to end all wars."

Interesting Books

Night by Lie Diesel
This book was written by a survivor of the Holocaust. He tells an extraordinary story about his life and his time spent in the concentration camp. He tells you every detail from how he got there to where he was staying before and during the Holocaust, and how he survived.

Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
This is one of my favorite books because it  tells a story of a young boy who lived the first 11 years of his life not knowing who his parents were. He was forced to live in a workhouse. There he was treated cruelly and only received one serving of gruel (watered down food). I enjoy reading this book because it shows how greedy people can be.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
In this story, Dickens shows how an old man who was known as a miser and didn't appreciate Christmas. After three "nightmares," he learned the true meaning of Christmas and began sharing his wealth and love with people.

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
This is another novel I enjoyed because it tells a story about an Igbo man and how his whole life basically falls apart. He goes from being well known, respected and feared in his village to a man whose advice is ignored by his fellow tribesmen. He chooses to commit suicide instead of allowing the English to execute him.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: Volume 2 by Kimberly Kerberger, Jack Canfield, and Mark Victor Hansen
Chicken Soup is a great book for many people.  I enjoy reading this book because it gives me some insight into my personality and into why things happen. Chicken Soup is also a good book because it tells stories of people just my age who may have the same problems I do. I recommend this book to all people of all ages who are looking for a book with insights into everday life.

My Recommended Hobby

The hobby that I recommend is reading. Reading expands your imagination, your view of the world, and your vocabulary. Reading can relax you, make you laugh, make you cry, confuse you, or even take you on an adventure. There are many different types of books you can read--fiction, non-fiction, adventure, romance, mystery, and more. I really hope you take up this hobby, and you begin to love it just like I do.
