When junior High hits Maleeka, she realizes she wants to fit in. Fitting in isn't so easy since she has always been picked on for being a really dark African American, and for wearing ugly clothes. Maleeka decides she will do anything to fit in. I like this novel because it teaches valuable lessons such as self-love and self-esteem.
The Coldest Winter Ever

Winter Santiaga was from a well-respected family living in Brooklyn. Her father was a major narcotic dealer, and was very wealthy. Things were going very well, but suddenly Winter's father is arrested and his wealth is taken away by the government. Winter’s mother is going crazy, and Winter realizes she is now all alone. She struggles to survive. This book is enjoyable because it teaches how one single mistake can cause you a lot of trouble.
Always Running La Vida Loca: Gang Days In L.A.

In this biography, Luis J. Rodriguez talks about his addiction to sex, alcohol, and drugs during his adolescence. From being a gang member to becoming an inspirational writer, Luis really reformed his life. I liked this book because this book teaches us what can happen if we take the wrong path in life.
Hobbies
Running
When I run, I feel like I can escape from everything. Since I live
near the forest preserve, I run there often. I let my mind wander off from
my problems and concentrate on the beauty of nature. I feel good about
myself and the world when I run.
Soccer
Ever since I was little my favorite sport has been soccer. I share
this hobby with my sister. When we were younger, we’d always bring our
soccer ball with us when we went to the park. My grade school never had
a soccer team because no one wanted to join, so I never got to play on
a real team until this year. I play hard and aggressively. I hate to lose.
Writing
I have a passion for writing. I write poems to express my feelings.
I also like creative writing because it can be fun to be imaginative. Unfortunately,
I am very picky about my writing, so it takes me forever to finally finish
a report. I try to write in my journal weekly, but sometimes I don’t have
time.
Entertainment
Sometimes I wonder what I would do if I had to
live without music. Music is so important to me. If I could listen to music
24 hours a day, I probably would. In fact, my mom is always complaining
that I listen to it too much, and she can’t stand hearing me sing along.
I can’t help it; music is my addiction.
On the rare occasions when I’m not listening
to music, I am probably watching TV. I usually get bored watching TV, so
I end up channel-surfing. I like to watch comedies and music videos. My
all time favorite TV show is I Love Lucy. My current favorite show is My
Wife and Kids. Both shows are hilarious.
I also enjoy watching movies, especially
comedies and dramas. My favorite movies are Love and Basketball, O and
Save the Last Dance. I rarely go to the movie theatres because I
like to rent the movies and watch them over and over again. My favorite
actors are Mekhi Phifer, Julia Stiles, Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps, Angelina
Jolie, and Denzel Washington.
