My Favorite Hobbies

Basketball
I started playing basketball in the seventh grade. I always thought of basketball as nonsense; what’s the use of it? Since I started playing, my attitude towards basketball has made a complete turn around. I love basketball. I can play it any day and all day! I’m still learning how to become an expert at it, but so far, I think I’m doing a great job.

Babysitting
I love children. I don’t want any of my own, but I am always more than happy to baby sit someone else’s child. The most I ever baby-sat at one time is six children. They were my cousins; the oldest was eleven and the youngest was two. I love children because they are so easy to manage. I feel I have a lot to offer children.  I am a role model for all the younger children in my family.

Shopping
I love to experience something new, and shopping is just the thing for it. I normally shop at the malls because there are many people there and things I have never seen.  Shopping is a time when I relax my mind and focus on that moment only. When I go to the mall, I always find something new although I’ve been there over twenty times. The mall is a place where I met new faces, find new clothing, and enjoy myself. I love to go shopping with my mom because she is always willing to have a good time and buy me what I want.

The Best of Books

Night
By: Elie Wiesel
This is a great novel, but it tells a horrible story. It’s about the Holocaust. The Holocaust is the worst thing I have ever heard about. If you love history, you must read this novel. It shows how the Nazis could be so cruel to other humans who weren’t the same as they were.

To Kill a Mockingbird
 By: Harper Lee
This is the best novel I have ever read! The little girl, Scout, and her friends are trying to get the mysterious Boo Radley to come out his house. Her father, Atticus, is an honest lawyer who is defending a black man, Tom, who is accused of raping a white woman.

Flowers for Algernon
By: Daniel Keyes
Charlie is a grown man who has the intelligence of a six-year-old child. He has an operation that the doctor’s hope will increase his I.Q.  Every week at his special school, he is tested to see if his I.Q. has risen. Not only is his I.Q. rising; he is becoming a genius. He is also falling in love with his teacher, Alice. You will have to read the book because there are many surprises to come.

Entertainment

        Music

I enjoy doing many things, but listening to the radio is what I enjoy the most. I wake up every morning at 5:45 just to listen to WGCI. Every morning my mother gets very upset at me and says, “Sharika, turn that down!” I listen to the radio in the morning because it gets me energetic and gets my day off to a positive start. I also listen to the radio so early because the station plays an inspirational song every morning. R & B is one of my favorite types of music because most of my favorite artists sing R&B.
My favorite music artist is Brandy. Brandy hosts the television show Moesha. Brandy has been in the music business since she was fifteen. She is my role model because she has done so much in her life at such a young age. When I listen to her music, it calms me down and makes me want to be like her even more. I also enjoy her television show because it shows the reality of how a teenage girl lives her life.  I enjoy listening to the radio and hearing Brandy. I wish her the best of luck on her new marriage and unborn child.
