Hobbies

Dancing

It now has been one year and six months that I have been dancing in a Mexican folkloric ballet.  We practice every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 6:30 to 9:00.  We also perform at festivals, weddings, and at many other events here in Chicago as well as in Wisconsin, and elsewhere.  This is a hobby that I really enjoy, not only because I love to dance, but because it is part of my culture, and like our Tenochtitlan saying says, “We’re bringing the past into the future.”

Porcelain Dolls
Collecting porcelain dolls has been one of my hobbies for about five years now.  I have eighteen dolls, each unique in its own way, whether it’s from make-up, hairstyle, or clothing.  My first doll was given to me on my eleventh birthday.  I hope that over the years I can continue to expand my collection. One can never have too many porcelain dolls.

Jogging
Over the past year, my mother has helped become interested in jogging.  I jog at the park every weekend on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  At first it was a burden to me, but then I actually started to enjoy it.  This is hobby that helps me keeps healthy and fit.

Books

Much Ado About Nothing
William Shakespeare
This romantic comedy caught my attention from the moment I began to read it.  It is about two people that dislike each other very much, but without their knowing, their friends are getting them to “like” each other.  However, their friends’ plan goes a little far.

Lord of the Flies
William Golding
Lord of the Flies is an outstanding novel.  The great descriptions that are used bring the story as well as the characters to life.  This novel is about a group of boys from England that crash on an Island with no grown-ups.  They have to make their own rules, learn how to live with each other, and above all, find a way how to survive.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Sou
This is a great book for teenagers, by teenagers.  It has stories and poems written by teenagers that tell their love and friendship experiences.  You can relate to many of the stories that are told in this book and also learn a lot from them.

Entertainment

Music is one of my biggest interests.  I like listening, dancing, and singing to it.  I like all kinds of music, both English and Spanish.  I could spend hours listening to music from rap to bachata and cumbia.  I listen to music when I am doing my chores, my homework, or eating. Believe it or not, I even take the radio with me when I am taking a bath.  My mom gets annoyed all the time by that, of course, but music is something that follows me everywhere.  The worst thing is that when my mom gets mad at me, she takes the radio away because she knows that I'll miss it a lot.
