Students will view an activity on the internet that will
show them the necessary steps to
create an original string art design.
Students will use basic lines drawn with a ruler
to create geometric patterns created by
intersecting lines. The lines that connect will
form curves and shapes. After practicing, the
best idea is selected. This is transfered to poster
board or wood. Holes or nails are punched
along the outline of the pattern. Colored yarn or
thread is sewn through the holes using a needle
or wound around nails. The color used will create
the positive shapes of the design the
background will be left empty for contrast.
To motivate the students, a presentation of
former student work will be displayed in the
classroom.
MATERIALS:
paper, pencil, ruler, needle, colored thread,
yarn
ASSESSMENT: Use of color, complexity of design, accuracy
of joining intersecting points
.
ACTIVITY: LOOK AT SAILBOAT PROJECT AND MAKE A LIST OF THE
DIRECTIONS. CREATE YOUR DESIGN AND COMPLETE IT
USING NEEDLE AND THREAD.
