History of Program.
The High Self-Esteem Program was established in September,1996 under
the sponsorship of Mrs. Nettles, Ms. Nunn, and Mrs. Lee with an initial
enrollment of twenty students. This first group of volunteer students met
once a week for two periods to discuss and develop by-laws, a program motto,
and activities that would enhance academic performance, social development
and ongoing positive character of all students. As the years progress,
new students volunteer and enroll into this program, addendums are submitted
to address student needs, suggestions are encouraged, and concerns of building
staff and parents are all incorporated. However, the ultimate goal of the
High Self-Esteem Program is to work with the school and parents in exposing
and providing as many opportunities as possible for students as they mature
into well-rounded individuals.

Guidelines
High Self-Esteem students are expected to follow a routine schedule
within the program along with the school policy designed for children enrolled
in the public schools. Locally speaking, students who volunteer for this
program are expected to adhere to the following by-laws:
-submit application
- dress to impress on "Thursday's Professional Day".
- meet with sponsor(s) for attendance update, attire check out, and
assignments
- submit weekly dues to program treasurer
- support all school fund raisers and school functions
-extend courtesy by greeting all staff and visitors
-meet all class requirements before attending any High Self-Esteem
activity
-encourage parents to attend and support school and community functions
-volunteer for minimum of community service hours

Calendar/Planner
Participants should be aware of all activities within the school
whether they are in attendance or not. Therefore, they are expected to
document and have more than one reference of all useful information
regarding activities on individual calendars and student planners. Report
Card Pick-up, classwork, homework, School Improvement Plan meetings,
assemblies, recognition programs, after school programs, sports events,
Parent Shadow Day, and banquets are just some of the highlights that encourage
student awareness and organizational skills.

Parent Involvement
Parents are always welcome to visit and/or assist in school activities.
Therefore, one of the missions of High Self-Esteem Program
members is to encourage other students to join them in improving
parent participation in school and community functions.

Future Beings
In looking beyond this stepping stone of support, participants
are expected to become more and more aware of their surroundings, develop
an understanding of their learning environment, become somewhat independent,
and self-confident as they mature and continue to challenge academic, social,
and economic issues.
