This curriculum is designed to help develop children's understanding of
datacollection, organization, and graphing data as a means of showing their
findings through the study of whales.
Students often complete graphing activities with
little understanding of its purpose, where the information comes from,
how to interpret it and why we make graphs. Our aim is to bridge an understanding
between the purpose of collecting data and its use in graphs.
Students must be critical thinkers with the ability to understand the purpose
of research about a subject with the intent of presenting what is learned
and understood. Students should research a topic with a goal in mind. Data
collection and graphing will be the goal of this unit on whales.
