The Reading Corner

Now that you have narrowed your reading selection, its time to create a list of books you want to read throughout the year. You may create a very long list of books or several short lists of books.

Directions: Read all of the instructions on this page before clicking on a link.

 

Choice #1: Book Adventure

Go to Book Adventure to create a book list by cutting and pasting http://www.bookadventure.org into the address box or clicking on the image.

First time users must create a log in which consists of a username and password.

            • From the home page, click on "Click Here to Register".
            • Then click on "Kids Register" and follow the directions.
            • Enter the class name and your teacher's last name (this information must be given to you prior to this activity.)

        Follow the on-screen instructions to create a list.

    Choice #2: RIF Reading Planet

      Go to RIF Reading Planet to create a book list you can access from your own web page. Click on the link: http://www.rifreadingplanet.org/rif/ or click on the image below.

      First time users must create a log in which consists of a username and password.

            • From the home page, in the upper right hand corner, click on the button: "Click Here" under Not Yet a Member?.
            • Read the description of Reading Planet.
            • Click on the button: "Sign Up Now."
            • Enter the information requested. (Your username should be the same as your Gaggle.net user name. Make sure you provide your birth date. Write a brief description of yourself when you sign up or save it for next time.)

        If you are successful, the screen will change and say "This page belongs to: yourname (username)"

        At the top of the page, click on "Visit the Book Place." Click "Browse all books."

        Select a category and begin to browse. Add books you want to read by clicking on "add to my bookshelf." The books on your bookshelf will appear on your page.

Choice #3: The Reading Corner

The Reading Corner is an excellent site for pre-selected book lists organized by type such as award winners, fiction or nonfiction.

Click on: http://www.carr.org/read/index.htm.

Click on the box of your choice to view the requested list, bibliographical information and a brief description.
