‘Poetry Club’, our way of learning about poetry, has finally begun.
Over the next 20 weeks, on Friday morning, you will learn about many elements
of poetry to write and read poetry. This unit is entitled For the Love of Poetry.
Each week you are expected to write original poems and copy poems you admire
written by others into your Writer’s Notebook. You will write and interpret
poetry using the notes you keep in your Mini Lessons Notebook. At the end of
our poetry study you should have written a minimum of 20 poems and collected
a minimum of 20 poems at a rate of two or more poems per week.
The poems you collect will be compiled into a bound anthology which will include pictures, illustrations, drawings, artwork etc. In order to make your anthology neat, you may want to type poems. Use the sample anthologies on display as a guide for construction ideas. You will receive unlined paper and materials to construct the book
