Reading is Funtastic! is for children who love (or are learning to love) to read independently. The Internet will make the connection between selecting, reading and responding to literature easy and fun. By following the directions and using the links you will:
  • compile a list of reading material using various websites;
  • respond to literature using graphic organizers, journals, online discussions, and projects;
  • access information at various websites to improve reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary and writing skills and
  • engage in reading literature online.
If you are using Reading is Funtastic! for the first time, click on Selecting Books. If you are returning to continue or complete an activity, click on the appropriate link. Check back often for new activities.

Here is a description of the activity pages for Reading is Funtastic:

  • Selecting Books takes you through the steps of choosing a book to read.
  • Strategies is a reference page for building reading skills to improve fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and writing.
  • Book List gives instructions on using Book Adventure.org to create book list.
  • Reading Room is a page of links to sites where you can read literature such as online books, magazines and newspapers.
  • Responding to Literature has online activities that guide readers to think about what they read.
  • Sharing and conferencing explains a simple process for discussing books and holding an online conference with the teacher about reading workshop, reading comprehension, vocabulary or fluency.
