The GRAHAM SCHOOL OF GENERAL STUDIES
at the University of Chicago offers a series of intensive summer seminars
for middle school and high school teachers in the Chicago area. The
goal of the program is to baring teachers up-to-date in their fields and
to renew their enthusiasm for teaching. The seminars also provide
new materials and new approaches to take back to the classroom.
THE WWW FOR TEACHERS; TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES
is intended to help teachers integrate the World Wide Web into classroom
instruction, by providing awareness of and experience with both technical
issues and curriculum design. Intended for teachers or administrators
with prior computer experience (including e-mail, browses, and some use
of computers in education), the course gave participants the skills and
knowledge necessary to create web pages and web sites, to participate
with their students in on-line educational opportunities, to create curricular
modules and to help other create modules, and perhaps most importantly)
to inspire other with a vision of what is possible when the World Wide
Web is integrated into instruction. The seminar included considerable
hands-on experiences with both technical issues in software and hardware
and curriculum design. Upon completion of the workshop, participants
are ready to facilitate the further integration of information technologies
into their schools.
