Background about Mythology for Gifted Middle School Students

MYTHOLOGY FOR GIFTED MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS was designed to be published on  the World Wide Web.  It is the culminating effort of a four week seminar on the use of Web-based instruction.  Most immediately, the study will be implemented in the summer program for gifted children at McHenry County College, Crystal lake, Illinois, USA.

The GRAHAM SCHOOL OF GENERAL STUDIES at the University of Chicago offers a series of intensive summer seminars for middle school and high school teachers in the Chicago area.  The goal of the program is to baring teachers up-to-date in their fields and to renew their enthusiasm for teaching.  The seminars also provide new materials and new approaches to take back to the classroom.

THE WWW FOR TEACHERS; TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES is intended to help teachers integrate the World Wide Web into classroom instruction, by providing awareness of and experience with both technical issues and curriculum design.  Intended for teachers or administrators with prior computer experience (including e-mail, browses, and some use of computers in education), the course gave participants the skills and knowledge necessary to create web pages and web sites,  to participate with their students in on-line educational opportunities, to create curricular modules and to help other create modules, and perhaps most importantly) to inspire other with a vision of what is possible when the World Wide Web is integrated into instruction.  The seminar included considerable hands-on experiences with both technical issues in software and hardware and curriculum design.  Upon completion of the workshop, participants are ready to facilitate the further integration of information technologies into their schools.
