LESSON 1:

Aim:
The
aim of this module is to instruct you on how to download sound and video
files from the Internet and how to add them to your web pages.
Rationale:
The
World Wide Web is continuing to evolve. Teachers are beginning
to look for additional learning strategies that will engage their students
with interactive learning experiences. Today, sound and video files
are two of the cutting edge elements that make web pages stand out from
the ordinary. This module will teach you how to download and add sound
and video files to your web pages.
Goals:
The
goal of this module is to familiarize you with:
- Downloading
sound and video files
- Adding
sounds and videos to your web pages as linked text or images
- Embedding
sounds and videos into your web pages as visible or invisible sound/video
consoles
- To provide
you with additional resources which will help you to learn the various
file formats of sound and video files
- To provide
you with additional resources which will help you to add the necessary
Plug-ins and media players that are needed to hear or view sound and video
files
Objectives:
Upon
completion of this module, you will:
- Understand
how sound and video files play as linked text or images within web pages
- Know how
to add sound and video files to your web pages
- Understand
the most commonly used formats of sound and video files
- Be familiar
with the necessary software/plug-ins needed to play sound and video files
Audience:
This
module is intended to be used by WIT Participants who would
like to create Web pages that include sounds and videos.
Pre-Requisite Skills:
Participants
who wish to successfully complete this module should be able to do the
following activities before beginning. You should know how to:
- Use search
engines to find URL's that links to sound and video
- Download
pictures or files from the Internet
- Download
and Install plug-ins
- Write
basic HTML source code and have knowledge of the basic HTML tags.
Instructional Plan:
This
module has been developed to be used as a self-paced tutorial or as an
instructor led lesson.
Materials:
Computer
with Internet access, sound card, speakers, browser plug-ins (QuickTime,
Real Player), Web page authoring software (DreamWeaver.)
