Aim:

Focusing on the importance of nutrition and obtaining the correct amount of nutrients each day in order to maintain good health.
 
 

Rationale:

Foods that children eat affects how they feel about themselves, affects their weight and can affect how long they live. It may also affect the risk of heart disease or cancer.

This lesson will be given to 4th and 5th grade students who know the six nutrients found in fast food: Proteins - Carbohydrates - Fats - Minerals -Vitamins and Water
 

Instructional Plan:

Materials:

Computer - Internet web site Cyberdiet - pencil - paper -print out chart from cyberdiet

The students will  go to the web site  - Cyberdiet:
 
 Cyberdiet is the web site that contains the following topics:.

        Students will go to the Web site and find the cyberdiet to print out their Nutritional
        Profile - make a copy, answer the questions and return to their teacher
 

        Students will go to the web sit - Cyberdiet  - Fast Food Quest to compare hamburgers
        from 3 of their favorite restaurants. The students will compare the nutritional value -
        the calories - sodium - cholesterol in all the hamburgers they selected.

        Students would understand the value of their finding from the chart provided on how
        nutritious  hamburgers are from their fast food restaurants.
