My name is Ms. Hicks and I'm a second grade teacher.

The classroom shall be arranged and decorated in a manner that is conducive
to learning.
There will be learning centers (listening center, computer center,
independent reading ceanter, math center, science and social science centers).
There will be brightly colored posters which show and teach certain
skills.
The room will be saturated with words on a word-wall.
The color of the room shall be a calming green called sea breeze.

Expectations:
I have high expectations from the children which starts withthem being
willing to try to complete their tasks in school.
I believe all children are able to learn.
I expose my students to a variety of literature as well as their reading
texts. Such as poetry for children by Shel Silverstein; stories to
build character, such as The Book of Virtues; African-folk tales; and a
variety of fiction and non-fiction books for independent reading.
I expect my students to develop good listening skills for an education
is obtained by listenig, seeing, and doing the work.
I expect students to come to school willing to be active particiipants
in their education which should also extend from school into their homes
through homework.

Curriculum
The curriculum shall consist of three of the five state priority areas
(Reading, Mathematics, Technology Integrated into Instruction) as well
as Science, Social Science, Character Development, and Discipline.

Suggestions for parents to help support their child(ren):
1. Make sure your child/children goes to school with their
school supplies.
2. Make sure your child/children gets at least nine hours
of sleep each night.
3. Read to your child/children, it makes a big difference.
4. Supervise your child/children's homework.
5. Let your child/children know that you value education
and expect them to do well in school.
