Introduction

The nature of mathematics can be summarized in a number of ways; for example, as a well-defined body of knowledge.  Mathematics can enter our lives through a number of ways; buying food, reading a newspaper, or estimating a length.  The lesson is designed to meet the needs of a particular group of students who need help to gain in a degree of undrstanding in order to understand better their approach to other subjects.

Rationale

The purpose of the lesson is to help students understand the concept of square roots and how it can be used in a real-world application.  This lesson should help the individual student uderstand the concept in timely fashion due to CPS requirements.

Instructional Plan

This unit is designed to be used individual and with a facilitator guiding the students.  However, the students should be able to navigate through the Web Quest at their own leisure.  This unit should be used as supplement to a simplifying radical unit, and should not stand alone.
