Travel Brochures From Abroad

People who love to travel often look for interesting places to visit when on vacation. After the thrill of visiting the tourist spots has faded, many people look for more remote, lesser known spots. If a person knows where he wants to go he may purchase a travel guide and work with a travel agent to develop an itinerary.

Many travelers' interests will be aroused by what they read in the travel brochures in a travel agent's office. It is the brochure that sparks the interest. View the brochure samples I have placed on your desks. Pass them around, and working in groups of four, discuss their similarities and differences.

Now it is up to you to select a country from the list. Do not choose a country you have used in a previous activity. Do not choose the USA. Research your country thoroughly using the suggested sites and develop a brochure that will make the reader want to visit your selected country.

Reminder: You may want to include information about the following:

If you look at any brochure it is doubtful that you will find any negative information. The idea is to get people to visit the country you selected. If you tell them that there is much disease, social unrest, poverty etc., you will scare them away.

SO:It is now up to you to do a second brochure. In this brochure you will produce one that will give the reasons why someone would not want to visit the country. Use the same information items listed above.

Example: If you glossed over some of the facts about the government the country had in the first brochure; you might want to warn prospective travelers that the government is a military dictatorship known for human rights violations (if that is the case).

After you have completed the brochures you will present them to the class. If you want everyone to have copies give them to me and I will make copies for you. The same procedure for evaluation will be used via a rubric. If you are going to use Powerpoint let me know so I can secure the use of the lab for you.
