Activity Nine
Where Does the Time Go ?
Many countries' governments change as do their names. Please go through the history of five of the nations listed and locate the following information about each. Try to select countries that you have not researched. This timeline related site might be of use.

Has the country been occupied by another country? In other words were they being governed by an outside country?

When and for how long were they under foreign rule?

What was the name of the outside governing country?

What was the name of the occupied country?

When did the country gain its independence? What year?

How did they accomplish this?

Did the country get a new name? When? What was it?

Under whose leadership did each country gain its independence?

Has the leadership in these countries changed from the government that achieved independence?

Who is governing the country now?

What type of government is it?
Using the information you have gathered and entered into your journal create a timeline illustrating the data. I would suggest a horizontal line. You could put all five countries on one timeline and use different colors for each country. Perhaps you could display five different timelines parallel to each other. How you display it is entirely up to you, as long as it understandable to other students.
You will be required to give an oral presentation using your time lines. Use the scoring rubric to prepare your presentation.
