School:
Kenwood Academy is a four year high school with an Academic Center for gifted 7th through 12th grade students. It has a total enrollment of 1,848 students and is located on the south side of Chicago in the community of Hyde Park. Kenwood serves students who live in the Kenwood-Hyde Park areas, as well as those who live all over the city who are enrolled in one of our Options programs.
7-12 Academic Center
Gifted students may enter Kenwood Academy through a special program after the completion of sixth grade. This is a competitive program that attracts students from throughout the city. Students enrooled in this program take accelerated high school classes, including the option of enrolling in classes at the University of Chicago.
The Faculty
The faculty consists of 106 teachers. 77% have earned an MA/MS degree, and 43% of these teachers have earned 30 or more hours beyond the MA/MS. The typical teacher has been at Kenwood Academy for 12.1 years, and has been in the profession for 20.5 years.
The Student Body
Students at Kenwood represent a
rich variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. Approximately half
of the school's population resides in Hyde Park. Other students come
from all over the city through the Academic Center Options Program.
