"The Revolutionist"
A Critical Study on the Web

Welcome to the web site devoted entirely to the critical study of the Ernest Hemingway sketch, "The Revolutionist."  The work I have done on this web site is based directly on the work Robert Scholes does in his book, "Textual Power: Literary Theory and the Teaching of English."  It is a vague attempt at reifying some of his theories, while also exploring the foundations of hypertext theory.

Directions:  Click on the link below that will lead you to "The Revolutionist," a very short sketch found in Ernest Hemingway's In Our Time.  Read the text in its entirety or stop off along the way by clicking on some of the links.  Each person's reading experience will be different, but structurally they remain the same.  If you are a student, make sure that you click on each link to fully understand the text.  If you feel that you can comprehend the text without exploring the links, you may do so, but remember, everyone is responsible for knowing all the information on the site.  As well, before you begin your adventure into "The Revolutionist," make sure you bookmark this page.  Feel free to roam the Internet for whatever grabs your fancy, but always come back to the sketch.  It is the center from which the rest of your journey on the Internet will focus.  When you feel that you are done you will be responsible for a 3-5 page paper detailing some aspect of the sketch.  Example topics include:  WW1, Mussolini, Hemingway, In Our Time, or a critical analysis of "The Revolutionist."  Okay the topic with me before you proceed with the paper.  And whatever you do, make sure you have fun!
