Ms. Scott's Teaching Guide for"ILLINOIS-THE EARLY HISTORYMAKERS"
 
 

Aim:
The aim of this lesson is to familiarize the students with the making of our state of Illinois.

Rationale:
The student should be able to recall details about who was responsible for the growth and development of our state of Illinois. The students will learn about some of the Indians tribes responsible for the building and the development of the state of Illinois.

Goals and objectives:
To understand and analyze events,trends,individuals, and movements shaping the history of Illinois.
 

Instructional plan:
The students will read orally, discuss and write about the early historymakers (Indians) and their contribution to the making of the state of Illinois. The teacher will handout pictures/maps of the state of Illinois. The lessons will be modified to fit individualized needs of the students.

Materials:
Textbook(Celebrating the States-ILLINOIS;maps of the state of Illinois; pictures of the Indians tribes in Illinois;pictures of the State of Illinois prior to 1900's,and various websites.

Plans for assessment and evaluation:
Oral discussions/Written assignment to determine comprehension.
 
 

Audience and Prerequisite:
Students at 3rd to 5th grade/ Prior to this lesson the student will attend a field trip on various sites in the state of Illinois.
