CFS1 Identify important ideas or principles that make good rules
and/or laws.
Materials: construction paper, markers.
Activity: Have groups brainstorm laws during the 1800's. Make lists of the laws.
Viewpoint: Have groups form two sides (North/South). Have each side determine why the laws were good or bad. Have students conduct a debate. Next, have students "vote" to change the laws. Post new laws. (Optional: have students discuss classroom rules)
Discuss why these rules are important. In groups, brainstorm ways to treat everyone respectfully and fairly. Post the "Golden Rules of conduct toward others."
