Aim:  to implement an integrated lesson plan using Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad .

Rationale:  to provide students with a more comprehensive and richer learning experience.

Audience:  students at the 2nd/3rd grade level.

Subject Matter:  Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad are the central theme of language arts, math, social studies, and science activities.

Learning Objectives:

•  Math:    Students will solve math story problems.
•  Science:  Students will draw the Big Dipper.
•  Language Arts:  Students will write short paragraphs summarizing Harriet Tubman's life.
•  Social Studies:  Students will conduct open discussions, have a debate, and make classroom "golden rules."

Instructional Plan:  Teacher will facilitate learning through computer access.  Students will learn in group.

Materials:  Harriet Tubman website, optional school resources (books, charts, maps, etc.)

Assessments and Evaluations:  Student  portfolios  and  website quizzes.
